Described as ‘a great addition to the Wray Valley Trail’, the Steward Wood multi use bridge provides further improvements to the cycle access to the Dartmoor National Park.
Located over the A382 near Bovey Tracey, the Devon County Council funded scheme, extends the cycle route from Moretonhampstead to Bovey Tracey. The trail is a multi-use path enjoyed by pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians where families can enjoy the Devon countryside together safely and away from traffic.
The 25-metre span bridge is an in-house designed Vierendeel truss with added parapet embellishments that are sympathetic to the old Great Western Railway heritage bridges. The 3-tone paint system applied in our internal finishing facility provides a pleasant aesthetic effect.
Due to the narrow and windy nature of the roads in the area, the 25-tonne bridge was delivered in two halves, spliced together on site, and lifted into place using a 200-tonne Liebherr crane.
