M4 J9 to J12 SMART Motorway

Description

As part of the UK’S largest SMART motorway scheme, Nusteel Structures were contracted to manufacture and install 62 new gantry structures and remove/recycle 41 existing gantries on the M4 motorway between junctions 9 and 12.

A total of 10 No non-access portals gantries ranging in length from 37 to 44 metres, 19 No non-access Long Span Super-cantilever structures, 24 No MS4 Cantilevers, 6 No ADS cantilevers and 3 No full-access MS3 structures all manufactured, fitted out off-site, delivered and installed.

For each of the new gantry structures, full testing and inspection regimes were carried out and recorded for inclusion in the electronic handover packages in line with the project BIM requirements. After the finishing processes were completed and the cable tray installed, the gantry structures were stored in the fit-out yard where the specialist electrical contractor carried out the cabling and communication installation operations. The structures were then ready for dispatch to site as fully completed elements.
